Working Equitation Canada is a national, non-profit organization of dedicated riders who promote and engage in the sport across the country. We prioritize the safety, welfare, and development of the horse, and we honour the functional ranch-work traditions established by the sport’s founders in Italy, Portugal, Spain, and France.
From local chapters to national and regional championships, we exist to inspire Canadians to pursue personal excellence and lifelong involvement in Working Equitation.
Each trial tests a distinct dimension of the working horse — from harmony and precision to speed and cattle sense.
The foundation. Horse and rider are judged on harmony, impulsion, and precision through a prescribed pattern in the arena — the classical principles made visible.
Riders navigate a course of obstacles that mirror real ranch tasks — the gate, the bridge, the slalom, the bell — judged on style, smoothness, and execution.
The same obstacle course, ridden against the clock. Bold, athletic, and built for the crowd — where control meets commitment.
A team of four separates a designated calf from the herd — the most authentic expression of the horse’s working ranch heritage, and the trial that brings the sport home.
Canada’s Road to Spain Team Development Program supports riders working toward international competition. Every WECAN apparel order and membership directly contributes to sending Canadian horse-and-rider combinations onto the world stage.
Support the TeamWe aim to nurture a passion that extends from national participation to international competition — honouring our deep-rooted values, the principles of classical horsemanship, and above all, the welfare of the horse.
Membership is required for all National and Regional Championships and every WECan licensed show. Members receive a monthly newsletter, access to the private members’ area, and qualification for the Annual Achievement Awards.
